Ethical Giving

This is an assignment that me and my class are doing. We are researching Ethical Giving charities. Here is a link to the assignment: Ethical Giving.
Enjoy!

If I had $100 I would spend most of my money on gifts from World Vision. From there I would get 2 hens and a rooster for $50 because the hens can lay eggs and the rooster can fertilize them until the people have enough chickens to get all the eggs they need from them, Antibiotics for 10 children for $30, I got this because it saddens me to think that children die from infections because they don't have antibiotics.

The $20 I have left I spent on mosquito nets from Oxfam so that babies or people do not get malaria.

I spent my $100 on what I feel is nessecary for a person in need to have.

Behind my name

Hi my name is Tyler Hawke. On this blog post you will get to know what my first name stands for. Behind My Name Assignment: Tyler Hawke

Before this assignment I thought my name was just plain Tyler, because I thought a name was just a name. I didn't know names had meanings and reasons for it.

After searching on Behind My Name, I learned that my name means a tiler, which is a person who puts tiles on floors or on roofs.

Another interesting fact I learned was that the surname Tyler was borne by American president John Tyler in the late 1700's.

I think my name doesn't fit me because the meaning of it (tiler). I know nothing about tiles or anything, I have no idea why my parents would have given me this name.

If I could give myself a new name it would be, Lythwain, because it was a name that my adoptive dad would have named me when he adopted me, I have grown used to the name and now wish that I had the name, Lythwain.

This is the Hawkes family crest:

Why Plagiarism on the Internet is wrong

Plagiarism is wrong because you're stealing ideas or words that are not yours it's like being dishonest. When you plagiarize you are showing that you don't care that you are depriving someone else of their work and that you cannot be trusted. You are taking the credit and the responsibility of that idea and work that you did not do. When someone does plagiarism on the Internet  it shows that the person is too lazy to go and do the work himself/herself.  When someone plagiarizes he or she can be called a plagiarist. When someone plagiarizes, the plagiarist, can be fined a minimum fee of $2,500 to the maximum fee of $250,000 in fines or 10 years in jail. Why plagiarize and deny yourself the ability to learn yourself for your later careers and risk paying a fee of $2,500-$250,000 in fees or risk going to jail for 10 years, this will all go on your Criminal Record which when you apply for a job the supervisor that is interviewing you will look at your job application and your Criminal Record to see if you have been in jail or have done anything illegal. By doing something illegal you are making your life worse and miserable because it will be harder to find a job.

These are some facts that I have researched and are putting out there so that all that reads this will know why plagiarism is wrong and that they should not become a plagiarist. I hope this will helped and that you will make sure that you do the right thing.

Eric Walters Part 2: Story

Does It Matter?
BEEP beep, BEEP beep, BEEP beep!

The irritating noise that makes me think of one thing...school.
My name is Tyler and I am average hight age of 13 but every boy in my class is taller than me they think that they are average hight and that I'm just lieing. Every day ever since I got into grade 8, you could ask me what words you could say to make fun of someones height. Shorty, Short stuff, etc. But worst of all...Garden Gnome. When the bullies at school use this, it makes me go berserk. I'm not that short and being called something someone uses as decoration is just plain rude.
I should probably get up I suggest to myself. I haul myself out of bed and make way for my clothes I put out for today-a white long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans- and start myself off slowly down the stairs. When I get in the kitchen, I grab a blue Chinese bowl and some Mini-Wheat's. So hungry I painfully think as my stomach aches. I make myself a big bowl of Mini-Wheat's, make a sandwich of peanut butter and jelly, and head for the couch. I turn the T.V on and it's on the Kids Help Phone commercial. I should try that sometime I think thoughtfully. "Uhhhh 7:30 already" I mutter.
I shut the door to my house and lock it. I head to the nearest bus stop that the 146 stops at. After a few minutes I hear the screeching noise of the bus. I get on and sit down a little ways from some bullies from class. I can hear them muttering insults and making plans of what they should do to the shortest boy of the class. I have set myself a goal from today for the rest of my life: if you're being bullied then ask yourself if the insults or devious thing people do to you, Does it really matter? If it does then go get help so that you aren't alone against these people that know nothing about you. If it doesn't then just ignore it and stay as far away from them as possible. So if I might ask: Does it really matter?

Slam Poem

For more information on this assignment please visit: Slam Poets

Hi guys it's  me. I just presented a poem I have been working on, and am very proud of, this is a reflection on what I have learned so far, and the things I've done so far.

What have I learned from Greg and Beth Ann?

I have learned that just because it doesn't rhyme doesn't mean it isn't a poem. For instance my poem didn't really rhyme but my classmates liked it and said it was really deep.
I've learned that you can write a poem about anything you want, and you MUST feel confident, and you need to know that you have your classmates full attention before you start.
Know that you don't have to worry about if the other people around you don't like it, just make sure you like it and that your satisfied and proud of it.

When writing your poem, what did you use as inspiration you?

I wrote about a very rough time I had with a girl, and what it put me in. I was torn to pieces, trying to put back together my heart. Even after she broke my heart... is still loved her and I don't know why. I was in sort of a depression for the first few days...I hid it from my friends and the people at school because I didn't want them to know that I was really hurt. But at least I made a very deep and beautiful poem out of it.

What are you most proud of from your poem or presentation from it?

I am most proud that I was able to make things that was really personal in my life into a masterpiece, that people didn't make fun of or teas me. I think they really liked it. At first I was really nervous and afraid, I didn't know what to do at first then I told myself that there is nothing to be afraid or nervous about just express yourself and tell the people who made fun of it "Take it or leave it, this is me if you have a problem with it then leave"

How did I feel at first?

I was afraid and nervous because I didn't know if people were going to make fun of it, or don't like it.

How did I fee after?

I felt great, I was relieved that I was able to express myself without regretting it afterwards.

What would I change on my poem or presentation?

I would change the fact of getting it memorized so that it would just flow right through me and I could do actions to better express myself.
What did I like about other peoples poem?

I loved Melissa's poem and I thought it was amazing! I am glad she was able to express it with us and share the feeling and message. I would really like to hear it again and again, it was so good.
